In submitting my work for a publication they asked for me to provide a description of what “services” I offer. I was all like no problem, I can do that! Difficulty level = 25 words or less. Ack, less cockiness ensued. After much word-smithing I arrived at a 17 word sentence.

Detailed, creative and innovative knitted accessory patterns that are well written, yarn conscious, and fun to knit.

For me, using fewer words tends to be a problem, but I think I get my intent across. Hopefully you like more words; since you are here on my blog I am guessing the odds are in my favor you do.

My work focuses on creating detailed and beautiful accessory patterns. I love a small project because it means I can conceivably get it done within a month or two, instant gratification on a knitting timeline. Also, I despise weaving in ends. If I can get away with only one or two skeins of yarn then I have fewer ends to weave in.

While my first love is lace, color-work is a close second (mosaic in particular) and I have a definite soft spot for interesting textures. I keep waiting for cables to seize my imagination and can foresee the day when they become an obsession, but that day has not yet arrived. One obsession that has arrived and is here to stay is photography.

You know how you meet knitters and they tell you that they have been knitting since they were eight years old, when their mom or grandma or female relative put a pair of needles in their hands? Well, that isn’t me. When I was eight years old, my father gave me a camera. Photography has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I am working on marrying that old love with my more recently discovered passion for knitting. Hopefully I can continue to develop my designing and knitwear photography simultaneously. At least I can try to ensure that I always have something interesting to photograph.

What about me? I am a Virgo/Libra cusp, which means I am artistic and anal at the same time. In 2005 I learned how to knit and absolutely hated it. I managed to finish one project and one sock then gave up because purling was evil. In May of 2010 I decided to pick it up again, in large part due to Ravelry.

And then I discovered the Norwegian Purl and life was good.

And then I learned that I am not particularly good at following patterns – because they aren’t want I want. Really it is pretty silly, but I would go through 100’s of patterns on Ravelry and they wouldn’t be precisely what I was looking for – so I ended up winging it. I found this creative process exceptionally satisfying and have been dreaming up new things to do with beautiful yarn ever since.

I also perpetrate a bunch of canning, cooking, gardening, general mayhem and destruction. These things may or may not make appearances. I have a cooking blog that I have allowed to languish – mostly because I got sick of eating cold food (that sat during photography). It predates this blog, and while I don’t have much intention of updating it anytime soon it does have some good cooking stuff if I do say so myself.
